The rap doctor and former half of music duo Akyeame, Okyeame Kwame used to be known as "Wizkid" the artiste has revealed.
Speaking to the host of music TV show
30minitz, Sadeeq during the filming of the #irepmyhood activation of the show
in Kumasi, Okyeame Kwame stated that, he used to be called “Wizkid” by the
likes of Lord Kenya, Okyeame Quophi, Swazzy B and all the young aspiring
rappers he used to engage in unending rap battles often curated by media
personality William Des Bordes popularly known as Lovin Cee with, at the
forecourt of the then Foxtrap niteclub in the early nineties.
He was so called, apparently due to his diminutive figure
and great punch lines, stressing that he used to pack the punch lines
surprising everyone into silence, adding that, the name “Wizkid” was even part
of the initial name of the group Akyeame whose initial name was
"wizdan and Okyeame Quophi's whose real name is
Dan until they decided to change the name of the group in their bid to
earn the respect of the society.Okyeame Kwame who was full of praise for the creative and enterprising efforts of Okyeame Quophi even as a teenager stressing Okyeame Quophi was the first to have attempted radio broadcasting to the community they both grew in from his room way before private radio began in the country also took the 30minitz team to Fante new town in Kumasi also known as "fantown" and showed Sadeeq the exact spot he first met OKyeame Quophi.
Okyeame Kwame and the 30minitz team also made brief stopovers at the Unity hall in KNUST where he resided as a student of the University where they paid respects to the mother of the hall, Aboagyewaa and Kentin krono where he stays now.
The show airs on Saturday at 12:30pm on Viasat1. This weeks show will also feature Highlights of Kaakie and Shatta Wale performance in Kumasi at the KaakitUp tour.

Georgia Tech welcome
speech gets over 340,00 hits
Atlanta
(CNN)
-- Georgia
Institute of Technology student Nicholas Selby is a force to be reckoned with.
The sophomore is a Mechanical Engineering major, co-leads
Team Solar Jackets -- Georgia Tech's team that built and raced a solar-powered
car in the Formula Sun
Grand Prix -- and is a president's scholar, representing the top 2%
of enrolled students at the university.
It's safe to say he must have a lot of energy -- and it
appears to have been unleashed during his welcome speech Sunday to this year's
freshman class.
It started out like many other convocations. Faculty, staff
and notable guests, including Selby -- dressed in a traditional black robe with
his mortarboard perfectly perched upon his head -- addressed the new recruits:
"We chose Georgia Tech because we want to do the impossible."
But then, something unexpected started to unfold. Music from
"2001: A Space Odyssey" began as Selby quoted Sir Isaac Newton:
"If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of
giants."
As the trumpets from the iconic movie theme song swelled, so
did Selby's passion, with the cadence a drill sergeant would envy.
"Crush the shoulders of the giants upon whom we stand.
We here are all such innovative people. So I am telling you: If you want to
change the world, you're at Georgia Tech! You can do that! If you want to build
the Iron Man suit, you're at Georgia Tech! You can do that! And if you want to
play theme music during your convocation speech like a bad ass, we're at
Georgia Tech, we can do that! I am doing that!"
Selby breathlessly finished the speech with his arms raised
in victory, to applause from the roughly 4,000 people in attendance -- some of
whom seemed a little shell-shocked from his intensity.
After a brief pause, Selby deadpanned with a smirk:
"Congratulations on your acceptance and brace yourselves for a hell of a
ride on your way to becoming a hell of an engineer."
That last phrase was a reference to refrain of the school's
famous fight song.
Freshmen, wearing their traditional yellow caps slightly
askew, appeared stunned; and they weren't the only ones.
Video of the speech is going viral with over 340,000 hits
since being posted Monday.
Comments on the video range from poking fun at Selby's
appearance -- "Welcome to Hogwarts," a reference to Selby's Harry
Potter-like appearance -- to enthusiasm. One person commented, "I am 30
yrs old, I already went to college. I am married, I have a kid, and a full time
job in New York... and after watching that, I just applied to Georgia
Tech."
Another person felt the speech was so epic that becoming
Selby's best friend feels possible "Because I go to Georgia Tech!"

Samsung Unveils Sexy
Curved OLED TV for $8,999
As seen on Mashables
Samsung
has officially announced the U.S. pricing and availability for its 55-inch
curved OLED TV.
The KN55S9C was previously announced in Asia and expected to
sell for around $15,000 in the United States. That’s why we’re pleasantly
surprised to see the unit launch with an MSRP of just $8,999. Yes, $9,000 for a
TV is still a lot of money, but that’s still 40% less than competitor LG.
So, why do you want a curved OLED TV? The thought is that
the curved shape makes it easier for people to see more of the screen in their
field of vision. Think about how movie theater and IMAX screens work; the curve
lets people from various positions see more of the screen and at more angles.
The KN55S9C also features what Samsung dubs some of its best
picture quality ever. The company describes the technology by saying that “the
self-emitting RGB sub-pixels are laid directly on the color display panel, so
no color filter is required.”
It also features Samsung’s Multi View technology, which
allows two users to watch two different programs at once in full HD. The 3D
Active glasses that have built-in speakers enable this. It’s a cool concept, but
we wonder how often users will really use it.
The design of the KN55S9C matches the 85-inch 4k TV Samsung
showed off at CES. Reaction to that design was mixed but we were fans of its
lines and overall design.
We hope to spend some time examining the KN55S9C later today
and we’ll fill you in on our thoughts.
What do you think of Samsung’s new curved OLED TV? Let us
know in the comments.

information, tweet or messages from @kaakieofficial on twitter and any other
digital platform purporting to be hers aside her original digital platforms
stated which is @kaakieGh on twitter and Instagram, Kaakie on facebook.
MUSIC AWARDS & ISSUES
On the issues emanating from the awards, we were very
hopeful on the night and believe we unanimously won the two awards fairly; this
was even evident at the event where almost the whole house started mentioning
Kaakie's name as the winner of the awards even before her name was mentioned by
award presenters.
Kaakie had worked very hard under the year in review having
scaled all the odds, being evicted from a reality music competition just before
the final, combining her hectic schedule as a nursing student and pursuing a
music career, releasing seven singles that all went on to become hits songs
earning her the name "Dancehall Queen", performing alongside Reggae/Dancehall
greats like Movado, Kiprich, Busy Signal, Samini, Keri Hilson, Bow Wow and
other well known artistes, releasing a fantastic video all these we believe
puts her in a good position to win the two awards she won. At this stage
we are busy pulling all the stops to make sure her impending tour, which starts
this weekend in Tamale, and maternal health campaign is successful and would
like to concentrate on that.
We would also take this opportunity to thank everybody that
has supported our artiste. We want to say a big thank you to the fans that have
stayed loyal to her music, Ghanaian DJ’s, music presenters and radio stations
that have continually aired her music to their audiences, Ghanaian bloggers,
the entertainment press and journalists, event promoters, all the people that
constructively criticized and gave us positive feedbacks on all aspects of
Kaakie’s music career and anybody/organization we forgot to mention. We are
indeed very grateful for your support. We could not have won the two VGMA
awards and YFM’s discovery of the year Award without your support and counsel. Thursday, 2 May 2013
No more Fanny for sex
bet Balotelli; Ace dumped by angry girlfriend
MARIO
Balotelli has been dumped by his girlfriend Fanny Neguesha — just days after he
said the entire Real Madrid team could sleep with her.
Model Fanny, 22, moved out of the footie bad boy’s mansion
in Italy following blazing rows over his joke remark and partying.
AC Milan star Balotelli, 22, said the players — who include
Cristiano Ronaldo — could have sex with Fanny if they managed to go through
after losing the first leg of the Champions League semi-final 4-1 to Borussia
Dortmund.
The ex-Man City ace said: “If Real Madrid make it to the
Champions League final, I will let my girlfriend sleep with all their players.”
He later denied saying it.
The Spanish giants didn’t quite make it — losing 4-3 on
aggregate after Tuesday’s 2-0 second leg win.
Belgian Fanny is also furious at madcap Balo’s unlikely
friendship with kickboxer Giorgio Petrosyan. Pals say the striker is distraught
at Fanny’s walkout — but has cheered himself up by buying a £200,000 Ferrari
F450.
A source said: “This was a major bust-up and could spell the
end for Mario and Fanny.
“He’s been consoling himself the only way he knows how —
through retail therapy — and gone out and bought himself a brand new Ferrari.”
Earlier this year Balo revealed his love for Fanny, telling
a magazine: “In a short time she found herself in sync with me. I could spend
my whole life with someone like this.”
Last year he split from TV presenter Raffaella Fico, 25,
even though she was pregnant with their daughter Pia.

MUSIGA Talks BIG and
Tough: tells Ghana Music Awards to
make major changes!!!
There seems to be a call for major shake-ups in the
way Charter House, producers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards,
operates the award scheme. The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has
made some demands and a letter titled as follows:
MUSIGA
PROPOSAL TO CHARTERHOUSE FOR BETTERMENT OF MUSICIANS
The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) would like
to inform the general public that it’s proposal and ongoing negotiations
with Charterhouse, organizers of the annual Ghana Music Awards
over the past 13 years seeks to protect musicians while at the same time
enhancing the quality of the event.
It is has never been the intention of the Union to
jeopardize the good relationship it has had with Charterhouse over
the years nor to undermine the 2013 event.
Musiga has always collaborated effectively
with Charterhouse for the planning and implementation of the
awards and wishes to be able to continue in this vein in future.
This Statement is in reaction to suggestions in the public
domain arising from the on- going discussions between the two parties on
concerns raised by members of the Union.Even though it is not the wish of
Musiga to put out the details of an ongoing negotiation. It is unfortunate that
these internal discussions have gotten into the public domain in its early
stages. We are therefore forced to clear the air by providing
information in our proposal.
Negotiations between MUSIGA and Charterhouse has
been on-going since the first meeting on the 5th of April 2013, where, among
other issues, the following were discussed:
1.Formalize MUSIGA-Charterhouse relationship in an MOU,
to ensure MUSIGA contributes even more to enhance the GMA brand, considering
that the brand has been associated with the Union for the past
13years.
2.Proposal of a minimum performance fee to be
agreed by both parties for GMA performing Artists to ensure high
quality performance.
3.Proposal that each award winner
receives cash award equivalent to the number of awards won rather
than the current situation where for instance an artiste who wins 5 awards
receives the same cash amount as the artiste who wins 1 award.
4.Recommendation to increase the annual cash
contribution towards MUSIGA Artiste Welfare and Development Fund,
from the current GHC 15,000 to GHC 250000 per
Annum. Charterhouse until the year 2012 had been graciously
contributing an amount of GHC 7000 to the Welfare Fund.
Musiga wishes to state also that, this proposal and
negotiations will take effect from the 2014 Award Year.
We wish to state that this proposal is been put forward in
good fate and in the interest of musicians who have over the years raised
concern.
It is the fervent wish of the Union that this MOU
will be signed and the Unions relationship with Charterhouse formalized by
the time of the VGMA 2013 Event (18th May, 2013).
The Union heartily commends all members who have shown
faith in it and assures musicians that these discussions are to articulate
their concerns and arrive at a consensus that will be agreeable.
In this connection, the Union would as always,
urge all musicians to give out their very best to ensure sponsors, event
producers, and the general public are always satisfied with
their performance.
We very much wish VGMA 2013 a resounding success.

ASEM SINGS ‘MAMAYE’ TO
SAVE MOTHERS
“They say a woman is the heart beat of every nation. So this
is not an issue for procrastination. We need act now and start some education
on maternal mortality and all its complications.” These critical words make up
the first few lines of GH-rap maestro, Asem’s new single promoting maternal and
newborn survival in Ghana.
‘MamaYe’,the expertly arranged track by Asem is a theme song
for the MamaYe Ghana campaign intended to draw people’s attention to the need
to do more to promote maternal health and to remove the resign associated with
maternal deaths in the country.
The multiple award winning artiste, who is also an
ambassador of the MamaYe Ghana campaign is well known for producing development-oriented
songs in the past as his song, ‘School Dey Bee’ won the World Bank sponsored
Music for Development Award in 2010 at the Ghana Music Awards.
Asem, known in private life as Nana Wiafe Asante Mensah, has
two albums to his credit with his recent album, ‘Solid Ground’, receiving rave
reviews from entertainment critics. The ‘Bye Bye’ hit maker’s hard work
continues to pay off as he has been nominated in 7 categories including the
Album Of The Year, Song Writer Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Record Of The
Year in the upcoming 2013 Ghana Music Awards
His groundbreaking first album, ‘Better Late Than Never’,
brought a revolution into urban music in Ghana with the ever controversial
‘Give Me Blow’ .
Asem says his deep love for his mother and other female
friends in his life is one of the reasons why he chose to be part of the MamaYe
Campaign.
“Look, we can’t allow this to continue. Our mothers are very
important to the socio economic development of the nation. In-fact, their
impact on our lives domestically can’t be quantified in any way. That is why we
need to act now to save more lives.”
He urged the youth to participate in activities such as
blood donation exercises that are geared towards saving more lives especially
that of pregnant mothers and their newborns.
“Sometime we ask ourselves ‘what we can do to help? Well you
don’t need all the money in the world to help. You have blood flowing through
you and every little pint counts,” he said.
Asem however stressed the need for the government to do more
to improve maternal and neonatal healthcare delivery across the country but
charged every individual, especially the men, to take responsibility for the
women to ensure that as many more mothers as possible are saved.
“We cannot joke around with the issue anymore because as
many as eight pregnant mothers die every day during childbirth in Ghana. At the
rate we are going, if we don’t do anything about it, we might end up losing
important human resources in the country. The time to act is now,” he stressed.
Asem performed the song during the launch of the MamaYe
Ghana campaign at the Accra international Conference Centre on February 28,
2013, which was attended by the deputy Minister of Health, Mr. Robert Joseph
Mettle-Nunoo, Dr. Joyce Aryee, Prof. Audrey Gadzekpo and Country Director of
MamaYe Ghana, Prof. Richard Adanu.
He later joined the MamaYe Ghana maiden blood donation
exercise at the Efua Sutherland Park on March 8, 2013 where encouraged
volunteers to do well to donate blood periodically.
As he rightly puts it in the opening embers of the ‘MamaYe’
track: “We need to come together to save mother. And if you talk sey you no dey
bother, tomorrow igo be your mother or your sister.”
White House Ridicules Jay-Z's 'Open Letter' Obama Lyrics
Jay-Z's new song "Open Letter," a response to criticism over his and Beyonce's trip to Cuba, has racked up nearly 500,000 listens in just a few hours. Now we know that some of those plays came from the White House and the reporters that cover it.
"It's a song, Donovan.

secretary Jay Carney tells Politico reporter
Jay-Z's new song "Open Letter," a response to criticism over his and Beyonce's trip to Cuba, has racked up nearly 500,000 listens in just a few hours. Now we know that some of those plays came from the White House and the reporters that cover it.
During a White House press briefing earlier today, Politico
reporter Donovan Slack asked White House Press Secretary Jay Carney whether
President Obama gave Jay-Z and Beyoncé clearance for their travel, based off a
lyric from the rapper's just-released song "Open Letter."
After reciting the lyric (“I turned Havana into Atlanta...
Boy from the hood/ I got White House clearance... Obama said, 'Chill you gonna
get me impeached/ You don’t need this shit anyway, chill with me on the
beach'"), Slack asked Carney if Obama did indeed give Jay-Z clearance.
Carney brushed off the question with sarcasm: "I guess
nothing rhymes with Treasury... because Treasury offers and gives licenses for
travel, as you know, and the White House has nothing to do with it."
"I am absolutely saying that the White house from the
President on down had nothing to do with anybody's travel to Cuba that is
something that Treasury handles.," he continued.
And if Carney didn't make himself clear before, he shut down
the conversation by denying White House approval straight forward.
"It's a song, Donovan. The President did not
communicate with Jay-Z over this trip."
Following the presser, Slack tweeted some suggestions for
words that rhyme with Treasury.

RE: Chris Brown to earn $1 million for GH Show …KSM unhappy
Soon as reports started going round about how much money Chris Brown is going to be- paid to perform at the Hope City Concert, the social media in Ghana has gone haywire. The multiple Grammy award-winner, is purported to be collecting a whopping $1 million to perform in Ghana on the 5th of March. So that’s the big deal. He’s to perform and hour and half (or so) and will walk away with a million dollar so most people on the social networks are expressing their displeasure because they believe that amount could solve most of our problems or at least could be invested in our local talents.
The seriousness of the matter is that, most of our senior entertainers like K.S.M are against the payment and apparently share same view. He wrote in twitter today “wished they had invested money in developing local talent: But, it’s THEIR MONEY and they are free to decide how to waste it!”
We can agree that, its approach has some social good aside the business but we need to keep in mind that the main aim of the concert is to cut sod for construction of a new cluster ICT Park with a vertical city composed by towers which will eventually provide jobs for 50,000 people and accommodation to 25,000 inhabitants. Now this is huge and these explain the huge investment in publicity and efforts to attract investments for the project. Is it worth it? Yes it would take that much effort for such investment to be established and we as Ghanaians must be glad that it is happening in our time.
In any case, we need to analyze what Chris Brown performance will bring to our industry and country. Am sure a lot of potential tourists who might be uncertain about visiting Ghana because of the many reports on the recent held elections or anything like that will have a reason to visit without panic. Chris Brown just performed here so, hey it’s cool to come over, right?
My view is that, rLG is not the government of Ghana and just like many companies who invest huge sums of cash in their business and social responsibility initiatives so are they also free to take actions deem profitable for their company. Kudos rLG and good lock with Hope City.

Vlisco Women’s Month Celebrations: A tribute and award to
Ghana’s inspirational and successful businesswomen.
The 8th of March 2013 is International Women’s Day.
Worldwide women are honored and shown respect for their immense achievements.
Vlisco feels women should remain in the spotlight for longer than just one day
and in 2013 we celebrate inspiring women, throughout West and Central Africa,
for one whole month.
This year our theme is BE YOUR DREAM, to celebrate
successful women who have made their dreams come true. Vlisco has selected
several inspiring women as nominees to win the unique Vlisco Women’s Month BE
YOUR DREAM award. The public will vote for the woman who inspires them the most
and stand a chance to be winners themselves, with prizes such as VIP tickets to
the BE YOUR DREAM award night and tailor-made Vlisco dresses. The celebrations
do not end there. Vlisco aims to support ambitious designers and tailors who
have bigger dreams of success but need some support. By sending in a business
plan of their dream, they have an opportunity to win funding to make their
dream come true.
The Vlisco Women’s Month BE YOUR DREAM award for Ghana’s
most inspirational woman
One woman’s achievement often inspires another women’s
dream. Many women find great inspiration by witnessing others overcome their
challenges and live their dreams. Therefore Ghana’s most
inspirational woman will be awarded the Vlisco Women’s Month BE YOUR DREAM
award. The winner will be elected by the Ghanaian public, and will be
revealed during a festive award night & fashion show on the 6th of
April. The whole month of March, everybody is invited to vote for the
candidate that inspired them most at any Vlisco shop, or online at beyourdream.vlisco.com.Voting starts on
February 18th. Voters can win tickets to the award night & fashion show and
a tailor made dress of their choice, made in the latest Super-wax fabric.
FASHION DREAM FUND contest & award for talented female
fashion designers and tailors
Apart form encouraging women to dream, we also want to
empower them to unleash their potential. Imaginative female creative fashion
professionals (tailors, designers, stylists) can send in their business plan
for the VLISCO FASHION DREAM FUND, and win the funding to realize it.
Candidates can get more information on beyourdream.vlisco.com.
A Vlisco jury will select the winners. Three winners throughout West and
Central Africa will respectively win 10,000, 7,000 or 5,000 US Dollars and

Majid makes TINSEL debut!
Smashing Ghanaian actor Majid Michel has taken up a role in the Mnet-produced TINSEL series. He joins
a star-studded TINSEL cast, and will make his debut on Tuesday February 19. He
will be playing himself in the dramatic soapie that is broadcast every day
(Monday to Friday) at 20:30 CAT on AfricaMagic Entertainment.
“I actually really enjoyed myself, I mean great cast,
wonderful director, and everyone on set – very professional. And all the
elements of drama can be found in TINSEL. The suspense, wondering what happens
next?” Michel says of his experience on the production.
“A long time ago, I realized that my acting is not only
about myself, it’s an extension of many things that I hope for in our industry.
So I made up my mind to extend myself to film projects that improve our movie
making prospects within the continent. I believe that this can also inspire
young actors coming behind me. TINSEL is a typical reflection of that,
after all, its’ one of the most successful soaps out of Nigeria.
“My fans have seen me play several diversified roles over
the years but they know they’re going to be in for a ride each time and at the
end, for a big surprise! They’re currently wondering whether I am the
protagonist or the antagonist? How will he be intriguing? Maybe he might play a
romantic lover? Well, you never know. They will definitely have to tune in to
see!”
M-Net Regional Manager Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu says: “Majid is a
professional who brings an infectious positive energy to his work and that’s
remarkable for someone who is so in demand, so busy and popular. We’ve been
extremely fortunate that, in addition to having a very talented core cast and

Richard Mofe-Damijo and Osas Ighodaro.”

iPad 5 Leaked

Apple
Apple
Over the past few months, multiple rumors have pointed to
Apple’s fifth-generation iPad being in development with a design akin to
the recently launched iPad mini. That design would likely feature the black
& slate/white & silver design language, thinner casing, chamfered
edges, and a smaller overall footprint.
Today, we received an unverified image from a purported China-based iPad accessories maker, an industry that seems to frequently tip off Apple’s future product designs, of the back plate for the next iPad.
Sexy BBA Star, Wins Election In Kenya!
Source: Ameyaw Debrah
Kenyan actress and Big Brother Amplified star,Millicent Mugadi
has won the first stage of her ambition to become a council boss of
her people in the on going Kenya elections.
Milly, as she is fondly called has been causing a lot of
stirs in the Kenya political environment as the only lady seriously workinghard
at her political party named TNA to beat the men to it. The presidential flag
bearer for TNA is the son of the Kenya’s first President, Jome Kenyatta, Uhuru.
In a brief chat with newsmen after her victory at the
primaries, she said “I won my party elections as the Councilor where I wrestled
politically with the incumbent councilor. I will be battling out with other
political parties come March 4th this year. I could not believe that
politics and movies are different ball games entirely.
In fact, acting is not the same thing as politics as I saw hellsince
my incursion into politics. But, sincerely, we must give it to African women
who are making relevance in politics, they have really tried to beat the
menfolk to it, now I know it’s not a day’s job at all.”
