Pope Francis US Visit Planned For 2015 In Philadelphia

Pope Francis is considering a trip to the United States in 2015, according to the National Catholic Reporter, citing Vatican sources.

Nothing official has been set--though, the newspaper said, the primary reason for the trip would be the eighth World Meeting of Families scheduled for Philadelphia Sept. 22-27, 2015.

The meetings on family issues were started by Pope John Paul II in 1994 and are held in various parts of the world every three years, the National Catholic Reporter said.

Pop star Justin Bieber was arrested for driving under the influence and drag racing early Thursday morning, Miami Beach police said. Bieber, 19, was also driving with an expired Georgia driver’s license.

The Miami Herald reports that Bieber had been visiting a club on South Beach’s Lincoln Road Wednesday night.

Police confirmed that Bieber was arrested just after 4 a.m. while driving a rented yellow Lamborghini and tweeted that he was arrested with rapper Crazy Khalil, real name Khalil Amir, who was in a red Ferrari. Both cars were towed.

Police spokesman Bobby Hernandez told CNN that two SUVs “actually blocked the traffic at 26th and Pine Street so that they could race on Pine Street [a residential road], almost making it like a makeshift race track.”

Hernandes continued that Bieber showed “signs of impairment” and failed a sobriety test. He was taken into custody, booked, and will be transported to Miami-Dade county jail.

The police’s Twitter handle posted photos of the arrest report and Bieber’s mugshot Thursday morning, which described the arresting officer’s interaction with Bieber. The singer said that he wasn’t impaired and had come from the recording studio. When preparing for a pat down, Bieber reportedly asked, “Why the f*** are you doing this?… What the f*** did I do, why did you stop me?”

Earlier this month, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies raided Bieber’s mansion and seized his iPhone and security camera system as a part of a felony vandalism investigation. Police were looking for clues about who egged the singer’s neighbor’s home, which resulted in some $20,000 in damages.

Bieber’s plane landed in South Florida’s Opa-locka Executive Airport Monday, and a police spokesperson said Wednesday that they are also investigating an unauthorized police cruiser escort of the singer from the airport.

Indian Village Tribunal Orders Gang Rape of Woman

A 20-year-old woman is lying in critical condition in hospital in the Indian state of West Bengal after she was allegedly gang-raped by at least a dozen men on the orders of a “salishi sabha”  — a traditional village tribunal — in the state’s Birbhum district.

Details of the story as reported by Times.com said that the villagers convened the makeshift tribunal after spotting the young woman with a lover. They tied them to a tree and fined the couple 50,000 rupees (around $800). The headman of the tribunal allegedly ordered the rape when the woman’s family refused or were unable to pay the fine.

He has now been arrested along with the 12 other men.

Four years ago, a teenage girl in the same area was forced by villagers to walk naked through four villages for having an affair.

She's known for her off-handed and sometimes downright offensive comments, but comedienne Joan Rivers has made a particularly low blow by criticising a defenceless baby.

The 80-year-old has branded Kim Kardashian's infant daughter North 'ugly' and 'desperately in need of a waxing'.

The comedienne joked

about seven-month-old Nori - Kim's daughter with rapper fiancé Kanye West - as part of her latest stand-up comedy routine.

Joan explained how she had met the tot when the new mom brought her into the offices of the E! television network, where she hosts Fashion Police.

According to RadarOnline.com, Joan told her audience: 'That baby is ugly... I've never seen a six-month-old so desperately in need of a waxing.'

When the 33-year-old first revealed a full-face photo of her child on social media in mid-December, she was inundated by comments that she had waxed the baby's perfectly groomed brows.  Taking to Twitter to defend her six-month-old’s appearance, she wrote: ‘Do people really think I would wax my daughters eyebrows so young? Come on, I'd wait until she's at least 2 1/2!

‘I'm kidding!!! Its pretty sick for people to insinuate that I would wax my daughter’s eyebrows. They are thick, natural and amazing!’

Joan's joke is unlikely to go down well with Kanye, who is fiercely protective of his daughter and vowed shortly before her birth last June that he was determined she would enjoy a normal childhood and not let people take advantage of her.

The 36-year-old said: 'This is my baby. This isn't America's baby.'

Explaining his fatherly duties further, he added: 'One of the things was to be protective, that I would do anything to protect my child or my child's mother. As simple as that.'

Kanye was also upset recently when Kim dressed North in a two-piece swimsuit to take her for her first dip in a pool.

She revealed during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show last week: '[Kanye] is a little uncomfortable with North wearing a bikini. I tried it once and it did not go over well. It has to be a one-piece.'

Lupita who on Thursday won Kenya’s first ever Oscar nomination, was soaked in tears as she walked past Oprah to receive the award. And tears of joy were plenty on the same Thursday night as Oprah never seemed to mind Lupita’s success but nodded in approval. “I am a little terrified,” she declared and dedicated the award to her uncle Nyong’o, a renowned Nairobi surgeon, who she described as a big fan of hers.

 “He attended every show I performed in Nairobi, and I dedicate it to him though he did not live to see this day, but I am sure he is proud,” she said amid applause. She recalled, “On one of the last performances he saw me in, he said, “You’re good, but let’s see what Hollywood thinks of you.” Feel honoured Lupita said that she was honoured and thanked the BFCA (Broadcast Film Critics Association) for this incredible honour.

“This has been an incredible year of excellent performances and in my category, I feel so honoured to be with the likes of June Squibb and Jennifer Lawrence and Julia Roberts and Scarlett Johansson,” she said, mentioning names that have been in contest with her for the Best Supporting Actress in the many awards since October last year.

In the 2014 Critics Movie Awards, Lupita edged out Her’s Scarlett Johansson, American Hustle‘s Jennifer Lawrence, August: Osage County‘s Julia Roberts, Nebraska‘s June Squibb, and Lee Daniels’ The Butler‘s Oprah Winfrey. BASS AWARDS 2014 NAMES COMMITTEE

Organizers of the Annual Bass Awards which seeks to reward African Reggae & Dancehall music has named members of the Awards committee.

The 2014 Committee features some old faces from last year and some new ones. The committee's scope of work will include oversight responsibility of the biggest Reggae and Dancehall Awards in Africa.  They will be responsible for the call of entries, collation of submitted materials/works within the stated year, sorting it out, pruning down the numbers, properly placing them in the categories they fit and finally coming out with the nominees list for this year's event.

Members of the committee were chosen based on their track record of helping to promote and develop Reggae & dancehall music in the country and in Africa. Conspicuously missing from the list is Talent Manager and Boss of Bullhaus Entertainment, Lawrence Asiamah Hanson popularly referred to as Bulldog and Rude Buoy Sterling who were all part of the committee last year. The committee sees a new entrant Makeba Boateng an Event & PR Specialist and Reggae/Dancehall activist. For the second time running, The BASS Awards committee will be headed by music administrator, Journalist & broadcaster Ahuma Ocansey also reffered to as Daddy Bosco who chaired the committee last year.

Meanwhile the committee is inviting for submission qualified works from musicians and record labels for nomination in Bass Awards 2014. Materials should have been released between January 1st 2013 – 31st December, 2013. The deadline for submission is 31st March, 2014.
