"Who Said Tweaa" Chided by Local Gov't

Government reprimands ‘’Tweaa’’ DCE

Citifmonline

The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hon Akwasi Oppong Fosu has reprimanded the District Chief Executive for Ahafo Ano South, Gabriel Barima.

This follows his conduct during a gathering of hospital employees in the district where he abandoned his speech in anger when a member from the audience heckled him saying, ‘’Tweeeaa’’.

A statement signed by Deputy Local Government Minister Emmanuel Kojo Agyekum stated in part that: “government takes a very serious view of Mr. Barimah’s conduct as it runs contrary to provisions in the Code of Conduct for Public officials launched last year.” It adds that “government has taken into account the DCE’s profuse apology and genuine show of remorse following the incident.”

The DCE has therefore been cautioned to refrain from similar conducts in the future and show better leadership in his dealings with his constituents.

The Ahafo Ano South DCE’s outbursts generated nationwide debate and criticisms which prompted investigations by the sector ministry.

Nigerian Ex NAICOM Chief Jailed – Release Says…

Ex NAICOM Chief sentenced to 15 years in prison for N10.4m fraud

Okechukwu Chukwulozie, a former Commissioner of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) yesterday began his journey to Kuje Prison in Abuja to serve 15 years over N10.4 million frauds.

He was convicted last Wednesday at an Abuja High Court on 5 counts charge for using private interest to furnish his official residence and demanding for a percentage in a contract he awarded.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC),in 2007 jointly charged Chukwulozie, his wife, Angela; and a former Deputy Commissioner in charge of Finance and Administration, Adedolapo Ogungbe to court the N10.4 million fraud without option of fine.
It was yesterday that Chief Chukwulozie began his journey to Kuje prison from ICPC detention cell as it was late yesterday to convey him to Kuje after securing his conviction papers.

Delivering judgment, Justice Mudashiru Oniyangi, said that the court sentenced Chukwulozie to three years on each of the five counts he is convicted for and it will run concurrently.
Oniyangi, held that the ICPC had proved all the ingredients of Section 19 of the the ICPC Act against him.

“The ICPC has proved beyond reasonable doubt that a commissioner of NICON, Chukwulozie, demanded fifty per cent of fees paid to liquidators of Gateway Insurance Plc.
“Beyond reasonable doubt is the standard of evidence required to validate a criminal conviction. Generally the prosecution bears the burden of proof and is required to prove their case.
“The prosecution has presented to court evidence to support its charges against the convict.
“In this case, they have done so. The court hereby sentences you to three years each on each of the five counts level against you, which will run concurrently.
However, Justice Oniyangi  held that the ICPC had failed to prove its case against the second (Angela) and third accused (Ogungbe) persons.
“The court discharges the second and third accused persons charged with aiding and abetting the crime.

The above report is a press release by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission-ICPC

Methodist Bishop Takes on NDC Government

Methodist Bishop blasts Mahama: Says Administration is Insensitive and Dull

The Methodist Bishop of Obuasi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Stephen Bosomtwe Ayensu has described the John Mahama administration as insensitive and dull in its approach to resolving the current economic of hardship the country is experiencing.

According to him, the government has not adhered to all concerns raised by citizenry as it continues to impoverish the citizens with harsh economic decisions.
The economy is still reeling under challenges compelling various economic indicators to stagnate and cost of living to all time high.

The various international credit ratings have downgraded the credit reputability of Ghana. The recently released Association of Ghana Industries' (AGI) Business Barometer Report reveals that confidence in Ghana's economy has hit its lowest since 2012. This revelation is contained in the AGI's Business Barometer Report for the fourth quarter of last year.

The decline, according to the report, is based on concerns by Ghanaian businesses that the business environment is not conducive, with no signs of improving any time soon. Also, access to credit came up as the major hurdle facing businesses, while high utility tariffs and cost of credit stood out as the second and third challenges.

Speaking Thursday on Adom Fm’s Morning Show, "Dwaso Nsεm", Rev Bosomtwe Ayensu bemoaned the lukewarm attitude of the government in handling the state of the economy.

He noted that Ghanaians have been saddled with high cost of living as a result of the poor management of the economy and certain decisions taken by the government. He criticised government for 'giving freebies' all in the name of paying judgment debt but goes to borrow at a high cost to the nation.

Justin Bieber: International Man of Misery

Pop star has legal troubles in both Miami and Toronto

Justin Bieber’s trouble with the law spread to a second country Wednesday when the pop star surrendered to police in Canada charging him with assault shortly after pleading not guilty in a separate drag racing incident in Miami.

He arrived in Toronto on Wednesday evening and was later formally charged with assaulting a limousine driver, CBC reports. Just hours earlier, he had entered his plea in Miami, where he’s accused of driving under the influence, resisting arrest and driving with an expired license, the Associated Press reports.

Toronto Police were called to investigate the assault allegation on Dec. 29, CBC reports. At the time, police told the Canadian press that they did not know whether it was Bieber or a member of his entourage who was the subject of the complaint.

Last week, the 19-year-old was arrested for driving under the influence and drag racing in Miami. Police say the singer admitted to smoking marijuana, drinking and taking prescription medication. He pleaded not guilty to the charges in Miami on Wednesday.

White House Petition to Send Singer to Canada

The White House Is Now Required to Respond to the Petition to Deport Justin Bieber

Yesterday, Time News reported about a petition urging President Obama to deport Canadian pop star-turned-bad-boy Justin Bieber had racked up more than 70,000 signatures. Today it surpassed the 100,000 mark, which means the White House is required to issue an official response.

“We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug abusing, Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked,” the petition says. “He is not only threatening the safety of our people but he is also a terrible influence on our nations youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society.”

The singer was arrested last week on various charges including driving under the influence, which was apparently the straw that broke the outraged, Bieber-hating camel’s back.
Stay tuned to see how the White House chooses to respond to the petition to revoke the Biebs’ green card. We’ve got our fingers crossed that the response will weave in some Bieber lyrics.

Cabaye joins PSG from Newcastle for £19m

Paris St-Germain has signed Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye in a £19m deal.

The Ligue 1 champions had a £14m bid for Cabaye rejected on Sunday but returned with a larger offer, which could rise beyond £20m with add-ons.

The 28-year-old, who has agreed a three-and-a-half-year contract, completed a medical on Wednesday.

"I was won over by the ambitious project at Paris St-Germain," said the France international, who will wear the number four shirt.

"I can't wait to join this exceptional squad and help the team reach its objectives in France and in Europe."

The former Lille player joined Newcastle for £4.3m in June 2011 and scored 17 goals in 79 appearances for the North East club.

He refused to play for the Magpies in August after they rejected a £10m offer from Arsenal, but later apologised and in September insisted he was "happy" at the Premier League club.

PSG are three points clear of AS Monaco in Ligue 1, and will face Bayer Leverkusen in the last 16 of the Champions League.

"The transfer of Yohan Cabaye is further proof of the club's capacity to attract the best French and overseas players," president Nasser Al Khelaifi said.

"We are especially delighted to welcome him to the Paris St-Germain family to help it in its upcoming challenges in the second half of the season."

Al Khelaifi heads Qatar Sports Investments, who became PSG's majority shareholders in 2011.

Since their arrival, the club have spent more than £200m on signings, with Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani joining from Napoli last summer for £55m.

Nairobian Rites Of Passage Lists, African Rites?

20 Rites of passage for every Nairobian

If you are reading this from Ghana or Nigeria, you will found out that, a lot of these happen here too. Check out the list of certain inevitable ‘rites of passage’ as observed by The Standard Digital that one must go through before he/she becomes a true and certified Nairobian. Some are not rites per se, but rightful conclusions, informed by skepticism only borne by a city that stops, starts and stops yet again. Here is how you know you are a Nairobian...

1. You must have been approached by the same person twice with the same cock and bull story about not having bus fare to some far-flung estate.

2. If a man, you must have passed through Sabina Joy out of sheer curiosity. If women have touched your groin area and you were persuaded to make a bargain, you are now a Nairobian. Come for your certificate. 3. You have been caught in a teargas mess and you had to run for your dear life.  This comes courtesy of rioting students or hawkers.

4. You must be picked in a matatu. You only realised when you alighted and cursed the day you were born. If a woman, your handbag has ever been shorn through and emptied as you fiddled with your phone.

5. You have been sold a fake electronic gadget, more out of your greed and the characteristic lack of patience to examine carefully what you are being sold. 6. You laugh when you listen to a story about someone being conned.

7. You have since learned the best time to escape town as clouds gather, lest you pay double or triple the bus fair.

8. You have given up on the national broadcaster.

9. A landlord has ever stuck with your rent deposit and all you did was curse incessantly, threaten until you gave up.
10. You have reached a point you loathe bus preachers.

Miley Twerks Madonna, Tongue out and Dropping Fs

Miley Cyrus' duet with Madonna features grinding, grabbing

Miley Cyrus mashes it up with Madonna, twerks with her tongue out and drops a bunch of F-bombs on her upcoming MTV special, and she's in fine voice while doing it.
While her whittled stomach and occasional crotch-grabs compete for attention, Cyrus really can sing, and it shows on her episode of "MTV Unplugged," airing Wednesday.

Cyrus taped the acoustic concert Tuesday on a Hollywood soundstage, performing stripped-down versions of selected songs from her latest album, "Bangerz," and closing with a booty-slapping duet with Madonna.

"So, it sounds super lame, but as a pop star it's pretty cool performing with Madonna," the 21-year-old said after singing a mash-up of Madonna's 2000 track "Don't Tell Me" and Cyrus' hit "We Can't Stop." Cyrus spanks the 55-year-old Queen of Pop during the duet, which made Madonna's Britney Spears kiss feel like it was way more than 10 years ago.

This is Cyrus' show, and it's a hoedown. Backed by a seven-piece band on a stage decorated with hay bales, Cyrus gives her acoustic songs a country touch, adding a twang to "4x4" and "Bangerz."
"I'm from Nashville," she said. "And since I couldn't make all of you guys go back home with me, I tried to bring Nashville here for the night."

Cyrus also includes elements from her more recent shows: a little person, a giant woman and two men in a horse costume. She works in a fair amount of curse words, tongue extensions and sultry moves as she performs songs including "Wrecking Ball," ''Adore You" and "Drive."
"I feel like I'm at karaoke, but it's only my turn," she said, "which is what I really like."

"I burnt a lot of bridges." Sienna Miller

Sienna Miller: Why I 'deliberately disappeared' from the spotlight

Sienna Miller took a break from Hollywood after attaining tabloid notoriety for her affair with Balthazar Getty among other things. Now the 32-year-old actress is opening up to Esquire about turning a new leaf in her career.

"I sabotaged things," Miller admits of her 20s.
"What was going on in my private life was not an easy thing to read about," Miller continues. "People don't want to see films with people they don't approve of in them."
In 2009, Miller took to the stage, further honing her craft in a Broadway production of "After Miss Julie."

"I felt like I had no control over any aspect of my life, professionally or personally," she explains. "So I deliberately disappeared. I was sick of myself, to be honest, or sick of that perception of me."

Miller's ex-fiance Jude Law was also working on Broadway at the time, giving them a chance to reconcile after a breakup that Miller describes as "awful."
"When something ends in a way like that, it's important if you can, in a way, go back and revisit it and either shut that door or create a new room," she says. "So it was a very healthy, cathartic experience."

Today, Miller has an 18-month-old daughter, Marlowe, with partner Tom Sturridge.
"I feel really settled," Miller says. "I have a wonderful life. I'm up every morning with a little baby. That gives you incredible perspective."

BRITAIN’S QUEEN BROKE?

Queen Elizabeth's cash crisis: Monarch 'down to last million'

Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain is apparently one royal who is no longer flush.
According to The Daily Telegraph, a report by the House of Commons' Public Accounts Committee has found that the Queen's financial reserves have reached a "historic low," dwindling to 1 million pounds ($1.66 million) from 35 million pounds ($58 million) in 2001.

The Committee's report has placed the blame squarely on the Queen's advisers for overspending in a manner out of line with the austerity measures that have been adopted by Prime Minister David Cameron's government. According to the Telegraph, the royal household only managed 5 percent efficiency savings over the past five years, while some British government departments have cut their budgets by up to 33 percent.

In the 2012-13 fiscal year, the report found that the royal household received 31 million pounds ($51.4 million) in taxpayer funds, but spent 33.3 million ($55.2 million), dipping into the reserves in the process.

Margaret Hodge, a Labour MP who chaired the committee, told Sky News that the financial mismanagement has resulted in two of the Queen's most famous residences falling into disrepair, with no contingency plant to pay for the backlog of repairs.

"Forty percent of [the royal estate] needs something doing to it," Hodge said. "The boilers at Buckingham Palace haven't been replaced for 60 years. Windsor Castle has problems with the bedrooms and the Royal Picture Gallery has buckets to catch the water coming through."

Hodge also called on the Treasury to "be actively involved in reviewing the Household's financial planning and management," which she claimed it has failed to do.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman the Telegraph that repairing the royal palaces was "a significant financial priority" and claimed that the royal household had doubled its income since 2007.

"Taylor Has Two Moms"

Disney Channel introduces network’s first same-sex couple

Disney Channel featured its first same-sex couple Sunday night during an episode of “Good Luck Charlie.”
First announced in June 2013, the episode featured lesbian mothers Susan and Cheryl, who drop off their daughter Taylor for a play date to the surprise of Charlie’s parents, played by Leigh-Allyn Baker and Eric Allan Kramer.

The move was hailed by former Disney Channel star Miley Cyrus last summer.
“I commend Disney for making this step into the light of this generation,” she tweeted.
Conservative group One Million Moms is up in arms about the episode. One of the group’s current issues listed on its website reads, “Please send an email letter and urge Care.com to stop sponsoring the Disney Channel if it pushes the LGBT agenda on our children during the program ‘Good Luck Charlie.’”

The group further writes, “If ‘Good Luck Charlie’ goes through with introducing LGBT content, then the floodgates will be opened for all programs on the Disney Channel – a trend that will be almost impossible to stop.”
“Good Luck Charlie” airs its final episode on Feb. 16.

STATE OF THE UNION

Army Ranger who 'does not quit' earns longest State of the Union ovation

President Obama's State of the Union address Tuesday night was interrupted more than 80 times by applause, but the longest ovation was for an Army Ranger recovering from injuries sustained on his 10th deployment.

Sgt. 1st Class Cory Remsburg, of Phoenix, Arizona, sat in the gallery between his father, Craig, and first lady Michelle Obama. He wore a bow tie under his uniform and had his left hand in a brace. He applauded by patting his right had on his chest.

At the rostrum below, Obama described how he first met Remsburg in 2009, at ceremonies commemorating the 65th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy, France. The president described Remsburg as a "strong, impressive young man  [who] had an easy manner [and] was sharp as a tack."
A few months later, Remsburg was nearly killed by a roadside bomb near Kandahar, Afghanistan. His fellow soldiers found facedown in a canal, underwater, with shrapnel in his brain.

"The next time I met him, in the hospital, he couldn't speak; he could barely move," Obama said to the now-silent crowd in the House chamber. "Over the years, he's endured dozens of surgeries and procedures, and hours of grueling rehab every day."
Obama said that Remsburg remains blind in one eye and struggles to move his left side. But he's slowly learned to speak, stand and walk again. He's been awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

"Like the Army he loves, like the America he serves, Sgt. 1st Class Cory Remsburg never gives up and he does not quit," Obama said.
Everyone in the chamber stood and applauded Remsburg for a minute and 44 seconds, the most sustained applause of the evening.

Remsburg stood, waved and gave thumbs up. Obama returned it.
As Obama made his way out of the House chamber, his father helped Remsburg up the steps of the gallery. What was left of the crowd turned toward him again and applauded.

SCANDAL: Justin Bieber’s girlfriend tried selling his DUI story for $20k

Report: Justin Bieber's model friend tries to sell story of his DUI bust

Justin Bieber’s latest girlfriend, Chantel Jeffries, has been trying to sell her story for $20,000 — but abruptly pulled out of TV interviews after spending the weekend with the 19-year-old pop star in Panama.

Multiple sources tell Page Six that a rep for Bieber’s drag-racing babe had reached out to the weekly magazines and to producers of shows including “GMA,” “Today” and “Inside Edition” to talk about her night with the teen star, which ended in his DUI arrest and infamous glassy-eyed mug shot.

One source said, “She hired an attorney and was negotiating a deal with the weekly magazines and the big TV shows. She wanted $20,000 plus a guaranteed mention of her modeling career.”

Another insider tells Page Six, “Chantel was talking to all the networks, but they refused to pay her. Yesterday [Monday] she abruptly pulled out of all the discussions.” The reason: a romantic weekend with Bieber in Panama. A bikini-wearing Jeffries was spotted on the beach with Bieber at Punta Chame.

The star’s rep declined to comment and Jeffries’ rep didn’t respond to Page Six.

Michelle says Beyonce's songs 'Drunk in Love', 'Blow' and 'Rocket' are quite explicit

Michelle Williams embarrased by Beyonce's new 'raunchy' album

Beyonce's sexually charged new album is a bit much for her Destiny's Child band-mate Michelle Williams. Michelle says Beyonce's songs 'Drunk in Love', 'Blow' and 'Rocket' are quite explicit and somewhat embarrassing to her, stating that the songstress should have kept some things private.

Michelle tells Us Weekly
"I love her new album. I think it’s amazing!"
"I was telling someone on the way here how I was laughing. I don’t know if it’s laughter of shyness or embarrassment because the makeup artist and everyone was listening to her say these things, and I’m like, 'That’s private girl!' We aren’t supposed to know all that. But she's married and has produced a baby, and we know what you have to do to produce a baby so OK!"

Arby's to Pharrell: We Want Our Hat Back

The Arby’s Twitter Account Totally Called Out Pharrell’s Insane Grammy’s Hat And It Was Awesome

When singer Pharrell and his hat stepped onto the red carpet at the Grammys, we weren't sure whether he robbed a park ranger or just needed to fight a bad case of bed head.
However, Arby's felt the hat looked all too familiar, and couldn't help but speak out about it.

The fast food chain immediately hopped on its short window of opportunity to join the trending conversation on Twitter. Many users cracked jokes about what the hat looked like, and some speculated over what Pharrell could possibly be hiding under it?

Naturally, chatter over the hat resulted in a parody account — if not multiple.
