An Overview of Ghana Music Week Celebrations

The Musicians Union of Ghana in partnership with the Ministries of Chieftaincy and Culture, Information and Tourism will be presenting the first ever Ghana Music Week Celebrations from the 15th of October to the 21st of October at the National Theater in Accra. It was launched on the 14th of September 2012 at the Coconut Groove Regency Hotel.

Honorable Mike Gizo with Honorable Fritz Baffour doing the actual launch chaired the launch. Ex MUSIGA President, Diana Hopeson revealed the logo for the GMW. Also present at the launch was Honorable Baba Jamal and a host of Musicians.

The highlights of the celebration include an essay competition, seminars and symposiums on different musical genres, a highlife concert and an All Star Music Night. It is expected that many artists, music producers, managers, studio owners and all stakeholders in the music industry will meet to share ideas and to throw more insight into their activities.

The Ghana Music week will seek to achieve certain goals and aims. Among these will be to create the industry’s biggest platform to bring together and encourage participation of artistes, stakeholders and the media. It will also be for the recognition and promotion of the importance and value of all Ghanaian music forms. This festival will help in connecting African and global markets, to effectively use local labor, talent and materials and to evaluate and reflect on musical achievements and creativity in a constructively and educationally focused way.

The GMW 2012 will serve as the cornerstone for the institutionalizing of a festival with the potential to bring in more tourists during the season. Eventually, this will become an annual affair with anticipation among patrons. It will also serve as a platform for the release of new material by local and international acts.

The celebration of the first ever Ghana Music Week will not be able to stand without due support from the various media houses and from sponsors and patrons. The celebration is close yet with the careful planning underway, it will be a celebration worth the while.

“SAVE THE LITTLE HEART BENEFIT CONCERT”

The Ghana Heart Foundation, in partnership with Panafrica-Ghana, Crystal Tv and Motor Riders Association will present a musical benefit and fundraising concert this Saturday, September 29th at the College of Surgeons and Physicians, near Ridge Roundabout at 7pm.

The day coincidentally has been earmarked as World Heart Day since year 2000 to inform people around the world that heart diseases and stroke are the world’s leading cause of death and to sensitize people on how to avoid such diseases by educating them on the main risk factors such as tobacco use, physical inactivity and unhealthy diets are curtailed.

The Ghana Heart Foundation has embarked on a Save the Heart Campaign to appeal to the general public to make donations in cash and kind (logistics) to the “GHF-SAVE THE HEART TRUST FUND” to save the lives of children and people with heart disorders. Donation tickets are on sale for GHC100. At the event, if patrons want to donate more, it will be welcome. Also, people can make direct donations to the Ghana Heart Foundation by contacting the Secretariat on 0244934097.

Donations by every person would assist in the free surgical operation of children and the elderly with heart disorders. It would not be a waste of money and logistics, because children are the nation’s future leaders. We are therefore asking all persons to continue to support the Ghana Heart Foundation to enable them to meet some of the health needs of patients with heart problems. Also, the fund supports the training of Surgeons from across Africa in heart related surgical procedures.

The Ghana Heart Foundation was founded in 1989 to among other things, help in the advancement of knowledge of the heart and blood circulation for the benefit of the Ghanaian Public and to support the further training of medical personnel in heart related procedures. Also, the foundation supports patients who need surgical procedures and educates the public on heart related issues and how to avoid them.

Currently, Ghana has one Cardio Center at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. The Foundation hopes to set up eleven more across the country to adequately cater for the surgical needs of patients and to avoid avoidable deaths from heart related complications.

The benefit concert will feature such top rated artists as Ben Brako, Abrantie Amakye Dede, Ras AfrikaBa-Levi, the Ambassador of the Ghana Heart Foundation, Cecilia Marfo, Pat Thomas, Nana Tuffour, Felix Owusu, Steve Bedi, Supt. Kofi Sarpong, Okyeame Kwame, Bobo Ranking, Ras Kobi, Chris Levy(Cote d’Ivoire), Wuza Wuza Cultural Troupe, Wind Afrique band and King Shabo International Band.

Bradez, R2bees, 4×4, Atumpan And More Rocked Vodafone 020 Live Concert In Kumasi

The much talked about Vodafone 020 Live Concert pre-show at KNUST Engineering Auditorium over the weekend was an event music lovers in Kumasi and its surroundings should have been there to witness. All artistes billed to perform at the show delivered as expected from them. OMG! Ghana gives thumbs up to the organisers of the show

The show, which started as late as 9pm with lots of students tripping in, was started with azonto competition with lots of give-a-ways from the arganisers. T-Flow, a contest in the ongoing GH One’s Next Big Thing In Ghana started the whole show with free styles and some hit tracks from his album. The KNUST students’ were able to pull the crowd to cheer him up since he was at his home ground. Black N Peach and RnM came to do same as fans cheered them up.

Around 10pm Atumpan came to teach us the thing by performing over six tracks. Atumpan who came with his dancer was able to prove to us that he is not just a teacher who teaches the thing but his waist also works as he used his ‘atupa gyen’ to turn the whole podium upside-down. Fans that came to fill the hall proved that they are really lovers of music. There was no song, which was performed that was not danced to

The last group standing in Oseikrom ‘Bradez’ came with a heated spirit as Flow King Stone came in with his over fifteen minutes freestyle. Stone who came to pave way for his junior brother Kunta welcomed him with his melodious voice as he came in with freestyle of simple. Bradez together with their DJ, Slim rocked the house as they asked for more when Bradez was leaving stage. Kunta was nearly carried away when he started dancing azonto with only one hand.

The fans continued as the Tema boys, R2bees came to continue and the heated up the fire which was already burning as Paedae came in with his tema motto way freestyle. Mugeez who was also heated at the back stage came with their hit song ‘I Dey Mad’. The crowed could not sit on their buttocks as the duo started doing what they always do best. The whole house stood to their feet and danced for over thirty minutes on stage. R2bees also gave away a CD’s of their current song ‘ODO’

The whole auditorium went crazy as MC of the day, Mahony of KFM called the last group 4×4. The newly wedded man of the group, Coded, Fresh Prince and Captain Planet started with freestyles and started dishing out their songs. The crowd who didn’t want the group to leave stage kept on naming tracks they wanted from the group and 4×4 made sure it was delivered.

They show in all was a success. From the organizers, sound, security, through to the performances by the artiste to the photo shoots with the stars and fans was a must to attend event. OMG! Ghana will be giving you the footage and photos of the whole event soon.

Catch the main event at the Dome on Saturday 29th September with rocking performances from Ludacris, Sarkodie, Naeto C, 4×4, R2bees and more
