Empire Entertainment Signs 11 Year-old Rap Star Swag Kid

Empire Entertainment has secured the signature of fast-rising rap star Ese Emokiniovo, also known as Swag Kid. The 11 year-old is now going to be handled by Bola Ray and his charges at Empire.

A terse Blackberry update of Empire Entertainment CEO Bola Ray suggests, insisting that just as the label achieved enormous success with the likes of Double and Dr. Slim, Guru, and Ruff and Smooth among others, Swag Kid is also on his way to fame and glory.

The 11-year-old talented rapper already has an appreciable following, and it is expected that Empire will do a good job of positioning him well for a successful career.

With a huge underground following, Swag Kid has enjoyed relative recognition over the past few months, after a video of him performing in an Accra-based recording studio, went viral.

ved to a bigger venue, Old Truman Brewery F Block, a recently redeveloped and formidable warehouse in hip and happening Shore ditch.

As well as these changes, another important change for Africa Fashion Week London comes in the form of two patrons this year, Mrs. Fifi Ejindu, the Nigeria-based architect and businesswoman and Yinka Shonibare MBE, the London-based globally celebrated Nigerian fine artist were announced as the female and male patrons for next year by CEO and founder of AFWL Ronke Ademiluyi on Tuesday, 4 December at the press preview of Studio 29, the first Africa Fashion Week London concession boutique soon to open in Lagos.

P-Square, Sarkodie, Samini And Strong Man Rock Over 40k Fans At Top Of The World Celebration

Last Saturday’s show at the Independence Square at the nation’s capital Accra was attended by over 40,000 Ghanians who came to witness a never-before show. The event which was aimed at launching the newly branded Malta Guinness was headlined by Nigeria group P-square with support from Sarkodie, Samini and
Strong Man. The MC’s were KOD and the funniest man cum musician Funny Face.

The show started as early as 8pm with an opening performance from Gh One’s Next Big Thing In GH winner Strong Man who really proved to Ghanaians on that night that, he deserved to be the winner. Heroes, winners of Malta Guinness Street Dance season 5 was up for a wonderful dance choreography after Strong Man had paved the way for other artiste to perform. Music group, D2 also came to heat up the spirits of the crowed with their performance for the real game to start.

Before the two Mcs KOD and Funny Face called the fastest rapper in Ghana, Sarkodie and his DJ, DJ Mensah was already on stage setting everything to make sure all tracks selected were on point. With all lights out, a man in all black with a black spectacle appeared on stage from nowhere. The fans started shouting at the hearing of the beat of Sarkodie’s new single ‘Illuminati’. Sarkodie, dressed in all black from hair to toe performed for close to an hour with freestyles. Fans, especially ladies yearned for more when the B.E.T award winner was leaving the stage.

Right after the ‘Illuminati’ singer left stage, there was a band set to give a live band to the audience. It was no news again that, the dancehall king in Ghana, Samini replaced the Tema based group R2bees when they decided to pull out of the show due to a misunderstanding between them and the organizers. Samini who came on stage around 10 pm gave lots of freestyles, which nearly made the fans bore, but getting to the peak of his performance, he made them feel his dancehall kingship. From his old tunes down to his new music, he also performed close to an hour.

Fans who could no longer stand the heat within the environment after the performance of Samini were screaming P-Square’s name. Before P-Square came on stage, there was an official outdoor of the newly branded Malta Guinness, which has been 10% with mineral for the same price.

The twin brothers after some thirty minutes delay after the mineral was launched due to some technical hitches finally jumped on stage together. The twins together with their 11-men band proved to Ghanaians that they deserved the $200,000 charged. The group started with ‘temptation’, which was joined by their fans. The group stopped singing when they realized there was a fight in front of the stage and called on the organizers to call on the security before they continued. Few minutes later, the fun started in grand style. People started pushing forward in other to watch the performance live but not to watch it from the giant screens.

The show ‘Top Of The World celebration’ was a hit despite all the controversies, which happened before the main event happened.

Daughters of Glorious Jesus return with 'Back2Back 2013'

For more than 20 years of dedicated life of inspiring gospel music lovers in Ghana and across the world, the sensational group Daughters of Glorious Jesus, have bounced back with a new concept to draw souls closer to God.

With ten albums and over 100 songs to their credit, the management of Daughters of Glorious Jesus on Tuesday launched “Back2Back 2013” aims at creating a platform for gospel music fans to enjoy thrilling soul-touching performances from the three sisters and many popular gospel artistes.

“The Back2Back concept, which we started from the beginning of this year with our first show on Sunday January 1st, has come to stay. Today we are launching the Back2Back 2013, which will be staged live on January 6, 2013,” Mr Theophilus Yartey, a management member of the group told the media at the launch.

Beginning their individual music careers in the early 1980s, Mr Yartey said, they became Daughters of Glorious Jesus in 1989, when one Reverend Akwasi Asare, saw the great talent and potential in them and gave them all the needed support.

Through the exceptional support of the Rev Asare, Daughters of Jesus recorded their first album in Europe in 1990. “Daughters of Glorious Jesus have sung in every major church programme and major churches in Ghana you can think of. We are proud and happy how God has used them to touch lives not only in Ghana but across the world,” Mr Yartey said.

Launching the Back2Back concert, Mr Samuel Attah-Mensah, Managing Director of Citi FM, a private local FM station, also traced the beginning of the gospel hit makers and urged them to tell their success story of staying together all these years by publishing a book.

Other gospel popular artistes on the bill for the Back2Back concert are Pastor Joe Beechem, Helen Yawson, the Tagoe Sisters and latest hit maker, Cwesi Oteng.

The concert, which will be staged a day before the swearing-in of Ghana’s next President on the January 7th, promises to thrill thousands of fans, including political party leaders and supporters.

The three daughters, Cynthia, Edna and Monica, who have promised to rock the Accra International Conference Centre once again, hinted at the launch that they would come out with another album next year.

Sarkodie 'no-show' at Joy FM 'Nite With The Stars' – Management Explains

Management of Hiplife heavyweight, Sarkodie, Duncwills Entertainment, has reacted to their artiste’s boycott of last Saturday's Joy FM’s 'Nite With The Stars' which came off at the Dome of the International Conference Center.

According to a press statement released by the management and signed by Sammy Forson, an armed group at the event threatened the multi-award winner together with music duo R2Bees. The incident, according to the statement, happened in their changing rooms while they were getting ready to get on stage.

The armed men apparently "broke" into the room and threatened that they disclose the whereabouts of fellow Tema-based artiste Kwaw Kese.

Duncwills Entertainment blamed their 'no show' on lack of or inadequate security during the brouhaha, following their complains to the organizers of the event.

Below is the full statement

With reference to recent development within the media and on other platforms following Sarkodie’s boycott of Joy FM’s Nite with the Stars organized Saturday 24 November 2012 at the Dome of the International Conference Center, I deem it right to set the facts straight.

Sarkodie arrived at the venue 2 hours earlier in high spirit and ready to thrill attendees and give fans one of his best showings in recent times. However, this became impossible after a confrontation between teams of Kwaw Kesse and VIP had gotten physical.

A group of armed individuals broke into the changing room of Sarkodie & R2bees threatening to get violent if we did not reveal the whereabouts of Kwaw Kesse.

We noticed a movement of several armed groups into the main auditorium and backstage for reasons we are yet to know. That became a huge concern for me and members of my team fearing what could happen when Sarkodie mounts the stage.

Fearing the escalation of the situation, as there weren’t enough security personnel to bring the situation under control, we indicated to members of the Joy FM team our concern, resolving of the fracas and the safety of Sarkodie, R2bees and management members.

Unfortunately we had to leave the show premises as nothing was done about the security situation and fearing the safety of my artiste Sarkodie, R2bees and others. This was an act and a decision taken not as a calculated attempt to tear down the show, rather due to the security concern.

However, we are more than willing to resolve this issue with the organizers of the Night with the stars event and hope they will grant us their platform to clarify issues going forward.

Sarkodie sincerely apologizes to our all attendees on the night and cherished fans who might have been let down by this act. Be assured that you are still and will always remain his number one priority and he is committed to thrilling you at all times.

Thank you

Sammy Forson Business Manager (Duncwills Entertainment)

Sadeeq Explains Blond Hair

Sadeeq, host of 30 Minitz Show on Viasat 1 TV, has been severely criticized after he started to appear on the show with blond hair.
It is difficult to explain why anyone would be concerned about what hair colour a TV host decides to sport but for weeks, the issue of why Sadeeq decided to go blond has remained one of the controversies in entertainment circles and generated rather interesting speculations.

NEWS-ONE caught up with Sadeeq and put the question directly to him on why he decided to go blond.
“Well with the type of things I do on TV, I appeal more to the younger generation and I just decided to go all out but in a responsible way.

I need to connect. I need to spark some creative and youthful energy in me. I was getting bored and I needed something new and hot.
“Fact is I have mostly worked in the media as a behind the scenes person and I was almost seeing myself as a corporate person due to the fact that my work makes me attend several corporate meetings with marketing executives, brand managers and what have you.

I wanted to strike a balance and that was what motivated me to do this. Something more creative; something more inspiring to spark some new energy,” Sadeeq explained.

Sadeeq, a final year student of the African University College of Communications (AUCC), is in his late 20s and when asked if his decision to go blond was not motivated by excessive youthful exuberance, he had this to say:
“I would not disagree with that school of thought but youthful energy in itself is not negative as long as it does not push you to become irresponsible.

If it is pushing me to become creative and do things that make me relevant in business and I am not going extreme, I would agree with that school of thought.”
30 Minitz is a power-packed entertainment programme that airs on Viasat 1 on Thursdays at 9:30pm, with a repeat broadcast on Saturday mornings.
It takes viewers into the studios of musicians and the behind-the-scenes events that go into the making of their music videos.

The show also explains how musicians collaborate to come out with their songs.
The show has entered its second season and Sadeeq reveals it would capture several international collaborations including R2Bees collaborating with Wizkid, Sarkodie and Davido.

Nicki Minaj Signs Nigerian To Her New Record Label

Nicki Minaj has signed London based Nigerian artist Parker Ighile to her new record label. The Super Bass singer says she is however yet to come up with a name for it as she is looking for one that will suit male artists as well.

Its now becoming common place for American rappers to sign African artists to their record label. Kanye West opened the gates by signing D banj and Don Jazzy to Good Music music, followed by Akon’s Konvict Music who signed Nigeria’s P Square and Kenya’s 14 year old Wilson. Akon who was recently in Kenya for a concert is yet to make public names of artists he signed during his visit.

Nicki has been signed to Young Money, lil Wayne’s record label. It has been a precedent for American rappers to establish their own record labels when they hit the pinnacle of their careers. Lil Wayne was himself signed to Birdman’s CMB Cash Money Brothers before opening his own. This could however be a make or break decision for Nicki especially if she leaves her current record label as the stable is often very instrumental to an artist’s success and such can be said of Young Money and Nicki Minaj.

The Epic Ballads That the World's Listening to, From Chile to Thailand...featured Jon Germain!

Fall is a serious season. It's when movie studios roll out their fanciest, most self-important movies, when publishers hard-sell their weighty novels from weighty novelists, and when the commercials for new TV dramas fall over one another assuring the viewer of the meaningfulness and addictiveness of their shows. It's also the perfect season for the musical equivalent of Oscar bait: big, emotional ballads that sweep the listener up in their particular world. Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" and Céline Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" were creatures of the Oscar season, as were, more recently, OneRepublic's "Apologize," Bruno Mars's "Just the Way You Are," and Adele's "Someone Like You."
This year, no consensus English-language song has so far emerged as the year's big ballad. Gotye's trickily rhythmic "Somebody That I Used to Know" and Katy Perry's self-helpy "Wide Awake" may be potential nominees, while Miguel's "Adorn" has emerged as dark horse from the artsy R&B world. Then again, the season's only just begun, and if American listeners can't find an appropriately sweeping heartstring-tugger at home, there's always the rest of the world. Ballad production is cranking up globally for the many different markets served by pop internationally, and even though half the world is entering spring, not fall, songs of love and its complications are an infinitely renewable resource.
Here are 12 low-tempo songs from around the world that can strike a chord regardless of language. If you're the susceptible sort, you may wish to grab a box of Kleenex before you get very far into the videos.

1. Wanting Qu (曲婉婷), "You Exist in My Song (我的歌声里)"
China/Canada

Wanting, whose name is a multilingual pun, was born in China and moved to Canada as a teenager; after getting a degree in business to satisfy her parents, she dedicated herself to music, and has been rewarded by seeing "You Exist in My Song" become hugely popular in China—which is, of course, a good way towards being one of the most popular songs in the world. Her Western-style vocal inflections make the song all the more adaptable to any market, and it's become something of an under-the-radar YouTube hit among piano-playing teenagers everywhere.

2. Sekouba Bambino, "Simontena"
Guinea

Sekouba is one of Guinea's most famous and respected singers—he fronted the legendary Bembeya Jazz Orchestra in the 1980s—and his music has long found inspiration across the Atlantic, from Cuban rumba and salsa to Colombian cumbia and vallenato. "Simontena" is an elegant, late-period slow jam with rhythms that recall cumbia and reggaetón, but the floating synth clouds and call-and-response Sekouba establishes are simply and irresistibly West African R&B.

3. Ricardo Arjona & Gaby Moreno, "Fuiste Tú"
Guatemala

Arjona is also a veteran of his craft; he had his first pan-American success in 1993, and has never been far from the Latin charts since. Jazz-pop singer Gaby Moreno has also been successful, if for a shorter period of time: She co-wrote the bouncy theme song to Parks and Recreation. Both of them were born in Guatemala, though there's nothing particularly Guatemalan about their rock-ballad duet, a hit throughout Latin America this year: That guitar and piano is more or less the official international bourgeois sound. But the video pays tribute to their home nation, with ravishing portraits of tourist destinations like colonial Antigua, the Mayan ruins of Tikal, and scenic Lake Atitlán.

4. Jessye Belleval, "Toute une vie?"
Guadeloupe/France

Zouk, the airy, steel-stringed guitar music developed in the French Caribbean, has become one of the signature Francophone styles throughout the world, elastic enough to incorporate macho posturing, rhythmic dancing, and romantic swooning—and, as here, a song about the heartbreak of not being in love anymore. The video has Jessye running away at the altar, but the title—"all one's life?" or "the entirety of a life?" tells a complete story in itself.

5. The National Fanfare of Kadebostany, "Walking With a Ghost"
Switzerland/Belarus/Romania/Kazakhstan/Russia/Poland

This six-piece band from the fictional nation of Kadebostany is from all over the Eastern European and Western Asian map, and with their ornate backstory and English-language lyrics are evidently aiming more towards the hip international indie audience (they have a Tumblr) than for any particular local success, but they've already charted in Greece and some of its neighboring countries. Their music—a mixture of Balkan horns, gothic atmosphere, and stern rhythms—is just the sort of darkly ironic embrace of doom that might hold some appeal for the insolvent half of the European Union today.

6. Emel Mathlouthi "Ma Lkit"
Tunisia

A specific brand of Oscar contender is the movie that tackles important political or historical events. Extend the analogy to music, and 31-year-old Tunisian Emel Mathlouthi is a Schindler's List-level awards shoo-in. Her 2011 protest songs "Poor Tunsia" and "My Word Is Free" were anthems of the Arab Spring, and this electronic update of "Ma Lkit" ("Not Found") rages against the instability left in the Spring's wake. Peace, answers, escape, and the words to express herself are all not found.

7. Kritt Pannana "I Love the Rain
Thailand

It might be surprising to hear smoky blues guitar riffs on a Thai song, but rock music is far more popular in Southeast Asia than it has been in the United States for nearly a decade. Kritt Pannana studied guitar and played in the US for eight years before returning to Thailand, and he's found success in his homeland the same way Justin Bieber did: through YouTube. "I Love the Rain" is a sweetly old-fashioned guitar song that somehow seems right at home next to the Korean- and Japanese-influenced dance-pop on Thai radio playlists.

8. Jon Germain, "Tell Me"
Ghana

Jon Germain has been a well-known radio and television personality in Ghana for a decade, but he only began his forays into smooth R&B in 2009. "Tell Me" is his newest single and a moderate hit in Africa, but it would sound entirely plausible coming from US radios, with production as coolly lush as anything Drake or Chris Brown has sung over in the last year. The last time the US record industry invested in an African pop star, he was Akon. Germain deserves at least the same success.

9. Javed Ali, "Deewana Kar Raha Hai"
India

Bollywood is its own pop universe, the rest of the world's music reflected back in unfamiliar patterns and in contexts that Western audiences might not understand. Raav 3, the film that provided the occasion for this song, is a psychological thriller with horror elements—an unimaginable source for a huge pop ballad, by Hollywood reckoning—which makes the obsessive desire in the lyrics, a standard theme in a great deal of global pop, resonate in a slightly creepier way than they otherwise might. Fans found the melody similar to the Arabic pop song "Ana Law Azeto" by Mohammad Hamaki: Bollywood's reflectivity at work again.

10. Tego Calderón, "Robin Hood"
Puerto Rico/USA
Hip-hop has its ballad forms too. Tego Calderón, whose music fuses hip-hop with various island beats like reggaetón, plena, and dancehall, is a great exponent of the muted swagger that comes with low-tempo beats and hushed vocals, as though trying to hide from the authorities. "Robin Hood" is a typically cynical tale of illegal activity, but his exhausted mumble intentionally gives away the downside of always being one step ahead of the law.

11. Rodrigo Costa Félix, "Amigo Aprendiz"
Portugal

The vocal and instrumental tradition of the fatalistic, painfully nostalgic fado stretches back to Portugal's days as seafaring power, but it culminated in the mid-20th century with the immensely gifted—and nearly as beloved—Amália Rodrigues. Post-Amália, traditional fado singers sometimes run the risk of being an indulged set of historical reenactors, but the young Félix sidesteps that by focusing on the minute nuances of his song, helped by extremely sympathetic instrumentalists.

12. Sergio Járlaz, "Caruso"
Chile

In 2011, Sergio Járlaz was the first winner of the Chilean edition of The X Factor. His nickname on the show was "Pavarottito," or "little Pavarotti," after his light-operatic singing style. This, his first single, is a cover of Italian composer Lucio Dalla's famous 1986 tribute to Enrico Caruso—which has already been covered by every pop-classical singer in the music industry. It's still beautiful, and a fitting gesture to the bel canto origins of the modern, sweeping pop ballad.

Rap Doctor Releases ‘Okyeame Kwame Versatile Show’ Album In December
Ghana’s rap doctor Okyeame Kwame has hinted that his ‘Okyeame Kwame Versatile Show’ Album has been created with poetry lovers in mind.

“I am staging the ‘Okyeame Kwame Versatile Show’ at the National Theater to coincide with the album launch in appreciation of my fans who have given me so much.
This album provides a lot of education in literature for fans to keep,” he noted.
The ‘Faithful’ and ‘Woso’ singer has hinted that the finished hard copy of his album will include a booklet containing lyrics of all the songs on the album.

“This is important because it will indulge listeners by enabling them to have a clear understanding of the verbal aspect of the album, which contains poetic elements for academic and educational purposes,” he explained.

Even though the lyrical content of some songs contains some adult themes, he is optimistic that every individual who values education through music can relate to the content.
“As you know, Literature modifies and brings new dimensions to one’s thought,” which he believes is what this album is out to achieve.

His heart’s desire, he disclosed, is to see that in some years to come, his music will be translated into more than 20 different international languages for educational purposes, simply because of its poetic and communicative elements.
He compares himself to Shakespeare saying if Shakespeare’s works were acknowledged years after his death, his (Okyeame Kwame) works will also go places even as he is alive.
The ‘Okyeame Kwame Versatile Show’ is the fourth solo album by Okyeame Kwame.

The only one of its kind, the Rap Doctor delivers a mixture of English, Twi, and Pidgin (broken English) languages on this album.
Another one-off with this album is that the Rap Doctor features some popular artistes and producers.
On December 14 at the ‘Okyeame KwameVersatile Show’ Event, Okyeame Kwame is set to perform each song on the album with the various artistes featured on the album at the National Theater.

Artistes featured on the album include Kesse, Raquel, Efya, Irene Logan, Nana Yaa, Tinny, Edem, and Stone (of Bradez fame).
The show seeks to fuse music, dance and theatre on one stage.
