All is set for Huawei Technologies Ghana to launch its range
of customized mobile devices in the country this month. The launch is slated for October 24, 2012 at the plush Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.
Huawei has before now been selling millions of devices in single transactions to large businesses, including mobile networks in Ghana, but with the new customized devices coming on stream, the company would be selling directly to individuals.
The new devices include Huawei Ascend P1 smartphone, Huawei MediaPad, modems, routers and several other data devices.
In Ghana, Huawei is into mainly telecom infrastructure, but also supplies modems, routers and other data devices to all six GSM mobile networks - MTN, Vodafone, Tigo, Airtel, Glo, and Expresso, it also supplies some branded affordable handsets to Vodafone in particular.
Whereas those devices are locked on the respective network, and could be used only on those networks, Huawei would be launching similar devices, which are open source and could used across networks. This threatens to be more competitive than the ones locked on particular networks.
But Public Relations Manager at Huawei Ghana, Gideon Obeng told Adom News the focus would be mainly on the new devices such as the Ascend P1 smartphone, Huawei MediaPad tablet and others, which are going to be new on the market.
He said Huawei’s smart devices have been selling on retail basis in other markets across the world and they have become very acceptable and that is why the company is now seeking to introduce them in many more markets, including Ghana.
“Huawei is looking to its smartphones to outpace global growth rates and drive a consumer gadgets business that will rival its flagship telecoms gear in revenue,” he said.
Huawei is a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider and our products and solutions have been deployed in over 140 countries, serving more than one third of the world’s population.
